Applicant for southeast Kansas casino scraps plans (The Kansas City Star)

Penn National Gaming has pulled the plug on its Kansas casino plans. In a lengthy statement issued Thursday, spokesman Eric Schippers said the company could not compete on a level playing field with the $300 million Downstream Casino that opened July 5 “in the backyard of our proposed project” on land in Oklahoma owned by that state’s Quapaw Tribe.
